Omni Hotels & Resorts, headquartered in Dallas, revealed on Wednesday that it had fallen victim to a cyberattack, prompting the shutdown of its systems towards the end of last week. Following the attack on Friday, the company has successfully restored the majority of its systems. Collaborating with a prominent cybersecurity response team, Omni is actively engaged in an ongoing investigation into the incident.

Reports from BleepingComputer, a technology news website, indicated earlier this week that Omni faced a widespread outage since Friday, impacting crucial operations such as reservations, hotel room door locks, and point-of-sale systems.

In a statement to The Dallas Morning News, Omni emphasized its immediate action upon discovering the issue, opting to shut down systems promptly to safeguard and contain its data. While efforts are underway to fully reinstate all systems, Omni continues to accommodate guests and accept new reservations, despite the disruptions and inconveniences caused by the cyberattack.

The status regarding potential compromise of sensitive customer data or any ransom demands directed at Omni remains uncertain.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, ransomware incidents surged in 2023, with over 2,825 complaints filed, marking an 18% increase from the previous year. Reported financial losses also saw a significant spike, soaring by 74% from $34.3 million to $59.6 million.

Headquartered in Dallas, Omni Hotels & Resorts operates a network of 50 hotels across the United States and Canada. This includes prominent locations such as the Omni Hotel Dallas situated near the Reunion Tower in the downtown area.
